Another great Inland Empire Championship concluded Saturday, 4/19--one that was filled with two meet records and dominant performances in the team titles.
A very strong showing in the team competition came from host Vista Murrieta as they took home three of the four titles. The Broncos won the Frosh-Soph girls (112 points) and Varsity girls titles (81.33 points) and picked up the boys Frosh-Soph title as well.
Oak Hills put a stop to a Vista Murrieta sweep taking home the boys Varsity title. A key part to Oak Hills boys varsity team success was their relay teams. They had dominant performances in both the 4x100 (41.62) and the 4x400 (3:25.55).
It would be hard to mention Oak Hills boys varsity success without mentioning Quran Clayton Jr. The Bulldog's sophomore played a huge role in their team title winning the boys 110HH (14.24), the boys 100m dash (10.70) as well as running a leg on their winning 4x100 relay team.
On the distance side, Woodcrest Christian senior Eyan Turk set a new meet record in the boys varsity 1600m beating a twenty one year old meet record. Turk ran an impressive 4:10.63 lowering the meet record by four seconds.
Rancho Cucamonga sophomore Lamar Taylor had a great showing in the boys frosh-soph 100 & 200 dash, winning both events (10.88/22.29). His 20 points for the Cougars helped them secure second place in the team tally.
On the individual women's side Catalina Loven of Liberty-Winchester set a new meet record in the girls frosh-soph high jump, clearing 5’ 4”.
Kameron Pressley of Vista Murrieta contributed 20 points with dominant performances in both the varsity 100 hurdles (15.21) as well as the 300 hurdles where she won by over a second with a time of 46.50.
Elsinore had a great day in both relays where they had a complete sweep. They still came up short in the Varsity girls team title, losing by about 13 points to Vista Murrieta.
Overall the meet produced many great marks going into many league final meets and CIF Prelims in three weeks. Many area championships give athletes a good idea of where they are performance-wise and where they need to be as they head into the postseason.
